R.C. Sproul & Ben Stein: "Intelligent" Conversation

With the the release of the film Expelled: No Intelligence Allowed coming nationwide on April 18, R.C. Sproul sat down for a conversation with Ben Stein, the narrator of the film and an avid supporter of the Intelligent Design movement. When two conservative intellectuals like these hold a discussion pertaining the implications of Darwinian thinking and its academic bias, you can't afford to miss out! The video works as a great overview for any of you who want to brush up on your apologetics in arguing against evolution (or just want clearer thinking on the subject). The video can be viewed above or here.

Here is an excerpt from the the Ligonier Ministries blog describing the video:

Many of you may recognize Mr. Stein as the teacher in the 1986 film, Ferris Bueller's Day Off, but he is also a writer, public speaker, and political activist. Recently, he became deeply involved in a film project that challenges the neo-Darwinian scientific community and exposes their hostility to intelligent design and all those who believe in it. The producers of Renewing Your Mind caught up with Mr. Stein during a preview of his new film entitled Expelled: No Intelligence Allowed. The movie opens nationwide April 18. (In this reviewer's opinion, the Stein/Dawkins face off at the end of the film is worth the price of admission.)

Ligonier was also sure to note the following:

It is important to note that during this free exchange of ideas, not all of the opinions expressed by Mr. Stein in the interview are the views of Ligonier Ministries. Christians should recognize that the argument from design does not necessarily prove the Genesis view of creation. We are not part of the Intelligent Design movement, but certainly share similar concerns for freedom of speech and inquiries into cosmology. Our foremost concern is to uphold the inerrancy and inspiration of the Bible and the authority of our Creator.

Don't let that discourage you from watching. This conversation provides an excellent overview of the philosophical and scientific reasons not to embrace Darwinian evolution as it's currently taught. Furthermore, Sproul mentions many of the same reasons for not holding to naturalistic materialism that he expounds upon in his introductory work on classical apologetics -- Defending Your Faith. At the clip's end, Ben Stein himself breaks into enthusiastic praise of Sproul's sharp wit and vast knowledge of Western philosophy.

Josh somehow I missed this interview. Thanks much for posting it.

This is an excellent video. Everyone must view it. That is an order. =;-)

My first experience with someone being fired or harassed or denied tenor was on the Creation Society email list. Mostly comprised of Scientists, and most of the posts were way over my head, it was discussed regularly of those being denied tenor, fired and not being able to publish in peer reviewed journals. Thus the Technical Journal Magazine was formed by Creationists.

Then a short time later I met Dr Jackson and somewhat experienced the grief he went through at a so called ‘Christian College’ (Carson Newman) and was finally denied Tenor and let go.

I was astonished something like that could happen at a Christian College. Then upon attending a meeting of sorts with 3 of the professors I understood it really wasn’t a Christian College after all. (that is a little harsh, but to allow professors to teach who deny the infallibility of God’s Word,... nuff said)

Mr. Stein makes reference to those who have been persecuted, fired, etc… giving us a small glimpse of what the movie has in store. As Mr. Stein mentioned, I believe this will be a real eye opener for many people.

Just recently Jeremy’s uncle, Stephen Carlson in Nashville, was amazed to read the little blurb I put in our church newsletter, that such things were going on at Carson Newman. I put him in contact with Dr. Jackson for ‘the rest of the story.’

R. C. Sproul gives a tremendous answer to the atheists’ et al when he states: The “Simplest argument for Intelligent Design is this, if anything exists now, something has always existed—something is eternal or nothing could be now.”

We are planning on taking the youth to see the movie, make an effort to see it if anyway possible.

The video won't work from the blog, and I'm not sure why. Hoss may have to explain that. I used the exact HTML embed Google video gave to post it elsewhere.

Anyway, I hope this doesn't discourage you from watching the clip. You won't be disappointed!

Expelled Review

Well-known evangelist Ray Comfort has written an excellent review of the new Ben Stein movie "Expelled : No Intelligence Allowed," to come out in theaters on April 18th. Above is the link to Comfort's review. I hope you'll enjoy it, and that you'll tell your local movie theaters that you'd like them to make a long run of the movie "Expelled" in your home town! Dr J
